Choosing tiles for your bathroom floor is far different from choosing tiles for any other floor in any other part of your house. Once you get past the common denominators in looks, durability and cost, you’ve to tackle one major factor that is unique to bathroom flooring: moisture resistance.

Bathroom floors have to deal with standing water more than any other floors in homes. Tiles with poor moisture resistance as such, can get quickly ruined if installed inside a bathroom.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at five most popular bathroom floor tile options that resist moisture really well.

Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain tiles are made from dense natural clay and minerals. They are stylish, easy to clean, cost effective and almost waterproof. Many come in through body color, a welcome feature in case chipping occurs. They have a water absorption rate of 0.5% or less.

Vinyl Tiles

Vinyl tiles have been the preferred choice for bathroom flooring for decades. They offer safety, comfort, low cost installation and ease of maintenance. They also exhibit excellent capability to resist moisture and can be highly customized in terms of looks.

Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles have the same lineage as porcelain tiles; the only difference is they are less dense. However, this one small difference makes them relatively inferior to their much denser brothers in terms of stain, wear and moisture resistance. That said, they are easier to install and cost cheaper.

Stone tiles

Stone tiles are by far the most expensive bathroom floor tile options and for good reasons. They are highly durable, aesthetically pleasing and come in a variety of colors from red and green to blue and cream. Although, they don’t resist moisture as well as porcelain and ceramic, they still do quite a good job.

Glass tiles

Last but not the least are glass tiles. These tiles have a three-fold appeal; they hold up well to water, they are slip resistant, and they give a great illusion of depth to your bathroom floor. When installed properly, they can last years and years of use.
